Copper Tungsten Alloy Rod

Main Sizes of Tungsten Copper Alloy:
Copper tungsten Rods: Dia(10-60)mm x (150-250)mm
Copper tungsten Bars: (12 x 12)mm (45 x 45)mm x 350mm

Copper tungsten alloy rod is a composite material that combines the high melting point and hardness of tungsten with the excellent electrical and thermal conductivity of copper. Through advanced powder metallurgy technology, tungsten and copper are combined in a unique microstructure, making tungsten copper alloy rod not only have the high temperature resistance and wear resistance of tungsten, but also retain the excellent electrical and thermal conductivity of copper, and perform excellently in many high demand application fields.

The main characteristics of tungsten copper alloy rods include:

Excellent conductivity: Copper is one of the metals with excellent conductivity, and tungsten copper alloy inherits the excellent conductivity of copper, making it have lower resistance when energized.

Excellent Thermal Conductivity: Copper has excellent thermal conductivity, and the thermal conductivity of tungsten-copper alloy makes it an efficient thermal management material.

High melting point and high hardness: The melting point of tungsten is as high as 3422 ℃, and tungsten copper alloy inherits the high melting point and hardness of tungsten, making it highly stable in high temperature environments.

Low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: Tungsten has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which, when combined with copper, results in an overall low coefficient of thermal expansion, making it less susceptible to deformation and cracking in high and low temperature cycling.

Good resistance to arc erosion: Tungsten endows alloys with excellent resistance to arc erosion, giving them a longer lifespan in electrical contact applications.

Machinability: Tungsten-copper alloys can be machined, EDM’d, etc. to desired shapes.

Customizability: The ratio of tungsten to copper can be adjusted according to application requirements to achieve optimum performance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is a copper tungsten (WCu) alloy rod used for?

A1: Copper tungsten alloy rods are commonly used in:

  • Electrical discharge machining (EDM)

  • Resistance welding electrodes

  • High-voltage electrical contacts

  • Heat sinks in thermal management systems

  • Vacuum and aerospace components

They offer high arc resistance, excellent thermal conductivity, and good mechanical strength under extreme conditions.

Q2: What are the main sizes available for WCu alloy rods?

A2: Standard size range includes:

  • Diameter: 10 mm to 60 mm

  • Length: 150 mm to 250 mm

Custom sizes can be manufactured based on your requirements or CAD drawings.

Q3: What are the common compositions of copper tungsten rods?

A3: FOTMA supplies rods in various W/Cu ratios, including:

  • W70Cu30

  • W75Cu25

  • W80Cu20

The higher the tungsten content, the greater the hardness and arc resistance; higher copper improves conductivity.

Q4: What are the physical and thermal properties of WCu alloy rods?

A4: Key properties include:

  • High melting point (~3400°C for tungsten)

  • Excellent thermal conductivity

  • Low thermal expansion

  • High density and wear resistance

These traits make them ideal for high-heat, high-stress industrial environments.

Q5: Can copper tungsten rods be customized for specific applications?

A5: Yes. FOTMA supports OEM fabrication, including:

  • Machining to custom shapes or threads

  • Surface finishing (polishing, grinding)

  • Production based on technical drawings or specifications
